For more than one-third of adults age 65 and over, falls are an annual occurrence and are the leading cause of death by injury for this population - Centers for Disease Control.  Nearly 30% of people who fall will suffer an injury including hip fracture. The majority of fractures in older adults are due to a fall.  One fourth of all individuals who sustain a hip fracture will die with in one year, and half will not return to their previous level of functioning.
